Municipal Clerks Week is May 1-7, just a couple of short weeks away!

Is your community ready to recognize and celebrate the work that your municipal clerk does?

If you’re unsure what that is, an article from International City/County Management Association (ICMA) lists five things to know about Municipal Clerks’ responsibilities:

1. Professionalism. Many states mandate professional certification to secure or maintain the position of clerk.
2. Secretariat to the governing body.
3. Records management.
4. Public information.
5. Elections.

While duties vary from state to state, “municipal clerks are often the first and most direct link between residents and government.” (ICMA)

The International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC) started Municipal Clerks Week, and has helpful tools for celebrating. They also have an extensive history of the role of Municipal Clerk.
